OpenAI is launching ChatGPT for Teens, a specialized experience for users aged 13–17 with stronger safety protections enabled by default.
The service includes safeguards against self-harm, eating disorders, violence, dangerous activities and explicit content. Parents can link their teen’s account, set Quiet Hours, manage selected settings and receive limited safety alerts.
ChatGPT for Teens also offers Study Mode, quizzes and learning tools designed to encourage students to solve problems rather than simply receive answers. OpenAI says the chatbot will also avoid encouraging emotional dependence or using romantic language, while reminding users that it is an AI.
