Artificial intelligence speech generation software allows you to copy people’s voices and use it to pretend someone else. This helped steal scammers ca $11 million last year. Thugs target mostly older people.
An AI speech synthesizer only needs a few sentences from the target person and based on that, it is possible to create an already realistic longer voice file. Today, technology has already advanced to the point where it’s only takes a few seconds of actual speech to impersonate longer conversations.
In the US, impersonation fraud has risen to the second place in the list of misdemeanors. Last year it was 36,000 such cases in the US, of which 5,000 cases were phone fraud. For example, old couple transferred $15,000 through a bitcoin terminal to thieves after being made to believe their son asked for this transfer.
