Meta has admitted that all public posts and photos from adult users on Facebook and Instagram since 2007 have been used to train its AI models.

This was confirmed by Meta’s global privacy director, Melinda Claybaugh, during a government inquiry in Australia. Despite earlier denials, she acknowledged that unless users actively set their posts to private, Meta has been scraping public content for AI training.

While European users can opt out due to privacy laws, most global users, including Australians, don’t have this option. Meta also confirmed it does not scrape data from users under 18.
