One of Starship Technologies’ autonomous food delivery robots knocked over an Arizona State University employee last September, causing minor injuries. The robot reversed and hit the person twice, resulting in back pain and a cut on their arm. Starship offered promo codes after the incident to victim.
The company stated the robot acted at low speed due to detecting an oncoming vehicle. Starship has faced other issues, including bots driving into construction sites and thefts, but it has completed over 6 million autonomous deliveries since its first trial in 2016.
