Tesla has been testing a robotaxi service in the Bay Area, allowing employees to summon autonomous vehicles using a prototype ride-hailing app, Elon Musk announced during an earnings call.

The cars, equipped with safety drivers, operate using Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) software, which Musk claims will be “1000 times better” than human drivers by mid-2025. Tesla aims to launch a paid robotaxi service in California and Texas next year, pending regulatory approval.

Although FSD is still a Level 2 system requiring human supervision, Musk remains committed to realizing Tesla’s long-promised autonomous Tesla Network.
