A Reddit user reports a new IMEI scam where a stranger asked to use their phone, secretly dialed *#06# to reveal the IMEI number, possibly photographed it using Meta Ray-Ban smart glasses, and fled. The victim later received a notification that their phone was unlocked.
With an IMEI number, scammers can clone, block, track devices, or commit SIM fraud. Experts warn never to hand your phone to strangers—especially those wearing camera-equipped smart glasses—and to contact your carrier and bank immediately if you suspect your IMEI was compromised.
