A newly released fantasy novel by a well-known author has an AI-generated cover art that has artists worried about their future.
On the back of House of Earth and Blood by Sarah J. Maas, a note that the image of the wolf on the front cover of the book is from Adobe Stock. The image was created with the help of artificial intelligence by user Aperture Vintage and was posted on Adobe’s page.
For example, Getty Images has banned AI-generated illustrations to avoid copyright disputes. Adobe, however, has adopted AI into its Adobe Stock platform based on specific criteria. Such content must be clearly labeled as AI-generated content, and creators must review the terms of any generative AI tools used to create images to ensure they have all the necessary rights for their commercial use.
AI-generated illustration has fueled artists’ concerns that publishers could replace them with text-to-image generators like Midjourney and Stable Diffusion.
