The distinction between human and machine creation has become an increasing problem today. The possible solution to this problem is at the moment so-called “capital latter test”, which is based on a very simple principle – asking a question and capitalizing a random letter in a sentence.
The idea is that people who can interpret context and linguistic quirks can understand and correctly answer such questions. However, AI models are often puzzled by this unexpected capitalization, trying to provide a coherent and relevant response.
It is reminiscent of the Turing Test, which was developed to determine whether a machine can demonstrate human-like intelligence. The “Capital Test” similarly attempts to exploit AI’s potential weaknesses by emphasizing differences rather than similarities.
AI models such as ChatGPT have made significant advances in many areas such as text generation, question answering, and conversational capabilities. However, they may stumble with tasks as simple as interpreting capital letters in a non-standard context.
The principle of the test is that artificial intelligence algorithms usually process text data in a case-sensitive manner, in other words, they usually do not distinguish between upper and lower case letters. Thus, when a capital letter is placed unexpectedly in a sentence, it can cause confusion. The AI doesn’t know whether to treat it as a real word, a bug, or just ignore it.
Although the “capital letter test” still works at the moment, it is far from foolproof. AI models are constantly learning and improving and as developers integrate more natural language understanding capabilities, AI may soon ace this test as well.
