ChatGPT creator OpenAI generates $1.3 billion in annual revenue, the company’s CEO Sam Altman told employees this week.
Altman’s note suggests the company is making more than $100 million a month, a 30 percent increase from this summer, when the Microsoft-backed startup generated $1 billion in annual revenue.
The revenue pace, which comes primarily from chatbot subscriptions, shows significant growth since the company launched the paid version of ChatGPT in February. For all of last year, the company’s revenue was just $28 million.
Since the release of ChatGPT, OpenAI has become a closely watched barometer of AI demand, helping software developers code faster and business executives quickly summarize documents or create blog posts and ads.
