Amazon is likely to receive approval from the European Union to buy robot vacuum cleaner maker iRobot for $1.4 billion.
The European Commission warned Amazon in July that the deal could reduce competition in robotic vacuum cleaners and strengthen the US company’s dominant position in online commerce.
The deal, announced in August, adds iRobot’s robotic vacuum cleaner model Roomba to Amazon’s portfolio of smart devices. The range of the US online sales giant includes, among other things, the Alexa voice assistant, smart thermostats, security devices and wall-mounted smart screens.
The deal has already been unconditionally approved by the UK’s antitrust agency after a preliminary review.
