Apple may launch an AI app store in June, which could offer AI apps developed by the company as well as others. Apple’s AI app store could be announced during the WWDC 2024 developer conference.
Apple has been pretty quiet on smartphone artificial intelligence until now, but the 2024 developer conference will bring a change in the form of the new iOs 18. Apple is not only announcing new AI features with the new iOS version, but is also in talks with various companies, including Google, to incorporate their AI models into the iPhone.
Apple may also be planning to launch an all-new AI app store in June, the same month that the WWDC event traditionally takes place. Ben Reitzes, head of technology research at Melius Research, told CNBC that Apple isn’t really behind in the AI race.
“I think you have to go back in time and realize that the history of this company has convinced a lot of leaders to build apps or do something with them while they’re improving the ecosystem for which it’s being consumed,” he said, citing how Steve Jobs ” ran around talking to a lot of music companies saying, “Hey, look, we have a song-for-a-dollar vision, and behold, iTunes saved the music industry.”
While many Android platform developers are offering new AI features in their smartphones, a dedicated app store for AI apps would be an industry first.
