Google has launched a new Vids app in its Workspace environment that uses the smarts of artificial intelligence to help create professional-looking video with minimal effort. Although the program uses the power of artificial intelligence, it does not generate AI video content itself, but rather helps assemble clips.
For nearly 20 years, billions of people around the world have used Google Workspace apps to get things done. Whether it’s creating a document, creating a presentation or calculating in Sheets. Google added a new tool to this environment – Google Vids.
Announced at Google Cloud Next 2024, Vids is an AI-powered tool that is not a generative AI system. In other words, AI doesn’t create video content for you out of thin air. Instead, AI helps you build a video from a simple idea by guiding you through every step of the process, including idea generation, script writing, layout design, editing, and more.
As Google plans to support professionals in creating internal video content with Vids, it will only launch in paid Workspace for now. If you’re in that camp, you’ll be able to use Google Vids starting in June of this year.
Those relying on the free versions of the Workspace apps will not be able to access Vids at this time. However, it is very likely that Vids (or a simplified version of it) will eventually reach all consumers.
