Sphero has updated its radio-controlled Bolt robot ball with a higher-resolution 128 x 128 LCD screen, enhancing its use as a STEM (Science, Engineering, Technology, and Mathematics) learning tool.

Known for its original RC ball and the popular BB-8 droid from Star Wars, Sphero recently focused on educational products such as the Bolt robot ball. The newly named Bolt Plus kept the same design, but with an improved display for better visual feedback and real-time sensor data to help kids program.

Version upgrades include improved app tools and a “Shake to Wake” feature. Available for pre-order for $199. The Bolt Plus will ship in August with discounts for schools and trade-in options for owners of the original Bolt ball.
