Despite being the biggest investor in company OpenAI and also providing it with cloud services, Microsoft now sees OpenAI as a rival to artificial intelligence and a search engine.
This shift in attitude followed when OpenAI announced its SearchGPT search engine. Although OpenAI insists the partnership remains intact, there have been strains in the relationship, including the brief ouster of OpenAI’s CEO and the subsequent loss of a non-voting seat at Microsoft.
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella also formed a new AI unit headed by Mustafa Suleyman, which also signals the big company’s further strategic shifts in its relationship with OpenAI.
