Apple will introduce version 18.1 of the iOS platform this fall, including Siri, a virtual assistant enhanced with Apple Intelligence. However, a standalone AI interface is also in development for future Apple robotics devices.
The updated digital assistant is getting a number of new features that we hope will make it smarter than ever. Another AI “personality” is in the works at Apple, according to a new report. This second personality, completely separate from Siri, is being built for future Apple robotics devices.
“One important part of robotics is creating a personality. While Siri is the digital assistant for Apple’s current devices, the company is working on another human interface based on generative AI. I’m told it could work with a tabletop product and other future Apple robotics devices,” Mark Gurman of Bloomberg notes.
This raises a number of interesting questions about the future of Siri. For example, why would Apple’s robotics products need a separate personality for them? Will the generative AI powering this new personality be more advanced than what Siri can get?
Since Apple’s first robotics projects aren’t expected to appear until 2026 or 2027, it’s still too early to get answers to these questions.
