Tesla is set to reveal its autonomous robotaxi on October 10 at Warner Bros. studio, showcasing its self-driving technology. The choice of venue, with its staged suburban settings, raises questions about Tesla’s readiness to compete in the autonomous vehicle market.

Tesla has been collecting data in the area, suggesting the company aims to ensure a smooth demo, despite the fact that fully autonomous “Level 5” driving remains out of reach.

Tesla’s reliance on cameras without radar or lidar for its self-driving system has been criticized, as it lacks the redundancy needed for high-level autonomy. Legal liability remains another challenge, as Tesla has avoided accepting responsibility for crashes involving its driver-assistance features.

The upcoming demo will be key in determining whether Tesla’s robotaxi is truly close to being road-ready.
