Chinese company DeepSeek has unveiled the Janus Pro series, an upgraded image model available on GitHub and Hugging Face in one-billion and seven-billion parameter versions. The company claims the 7B model rivals or surpasses Stable Diffusion and DALL-E 3 in benchmarks, though comparisons are based on older versions of Stable Diffusion.
Currently, image uploads are limited to 384 x 384 pixels, but outputs via Hugging Face demo reach 768 x 768 pixels. DeepSeek showcased significant upgrades in image quality, but demo results received mixed feedback.
This launch follows DeepSeek’s AI Assistant becoming the top free app on the Apple App Store, praised for outperforming ChatGPT and offering local usage with mostly free access.
