MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) researcher Katie Darling believes that the AI level seen in the horror movie M3gan is still decades away.

People have completely skewed expectations of what robotics can do at this point in time, thanks to movies like this. I’m not concerned about what I saw in the movie happening in real life – the AI becoming too intelligent and not listening to commands, says Darling.

The film was released in January this year and brought in more than 100 million dollars worldwide. In the film, Gemma (Allison Williams) must to take care of his 8-year-old sister Cady (Violet McGraw) after an unexpected tragedy, but she doesn’t have the skills or confidence to be a parent. Looking for a solution to the problem, Gemma brings home prototype of new generation robot M3GAN to provide Cady with a playmate and protector. But things get out of hand quickly…
