Microsoft has unveiled Copilot, an artificial intelligence application for 365 environments designed to help people create documents, emails and presentations. Powered by OpenAI GPT-4, Copilot sits next to Microsoft 365 apps in an assistant-like manner, much like old paperclip shaped character Clippy used to be.

Copilot appears in the sidebar as a chatbot that allows Office users to invoke it to generate text in documents or create PowerPoint presentations based on Word documents. Copilot also helps you use the PivotTable function in Excel, for example.

“It works with you, embedded in the applications that millions of people use every day: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams and more,” said Jared Spataro, head of Microsoft 365. “Copilot is a completely new form of working.”
