Using generative AI, Google added 110 new languages to its translation app, including high-demand languages like Cantonese.
Advances in artificial intelligence, particularly with PaLM 2, helped Google overcome the challenges of closely related languages and regional dialects. This update aims to eventually support at least 1000 languages.
Some of the newly added languages include Portuguese, Tibetan, Sicilian and Tahitian. The translation quality of already supported languages was also improved. A full list of new languages is available on the Google Support page.
