AES Corporation gave its Atlas solar robot some smart features based on Amazon Web Services and renamed it Maximo. The robot helped complete the construction of an Amazon-backed solar farm in Louisiana and is now on its way to Bellefield, California, home of the largest solar energy storage project in the US. According to Amazon, this can cut the timeline and cost of solar installations in half.
In addition to automating heavy lifting, Maximo can also work in almost any weather or light conditions, which is especially useful for the Bellefield project, which is located in a sandy desert area. It is known for extreme heat. When Maximo gets there later this year, the robot will work with teams to lift hundreds of heavy solar panels into place.
