OpenAI has launched ChatGPT Images 2.5, an upgraded image-generation system that delivers sharper details, more natural lighting, richer textures and more accurate editing. The company says it can preserve subjects from reference images more reliably and follow editing instructions better across multiple turns.

Image generation is also up to 50% faster than with Images 2.0. OpenAI is introducing a new Sketch feature that lets users draw directly in ChatGPT and use their sketches as references for image generation, along with templates and prompt sharing.

For developers, OpenAI is offering two API versions: GPT-Image-2.5 Flare for general-purpose image generation and GPT-Image-2.5 Sunburst for premium creative and editing workflows.

ChatGPT Images 2.5 is rolling out across ChatGPT, ChatGPT Work and Codex on desktop, mobile and web.
